Ayurveda and Its Simple Approach to Diagnosis the Sinus

Sinus is a medical situation that impacts sinuses. They are connected through hollow cavities in the nasal passage. Our face has sinus lining, cheekbones have maxillary sinus lining, the forehead consists of the frontal sinus, and the ears have ethmoid and sphenoid sinus. If inflammation occurs, the sinus will be swollen, blocking the nostrils with fluid that might increase infection.

It is one of the common infections, and the reasons could be cold, dry weather exposure, pollution, allergies, and others. Sinus occurs in four stages that are acute, sub-acute, chronic, and reoccurrence. The symptom of sinus would vary from tenderness on the face to constant headache, pain in various parts of the face, and others.

Sinus Treatment in Ayurveda uses many types of medication and therapies like detoxification, medicines, and changes in habits and lifestyles.

Sinus Types

Acute Sinus– Acute sinus will last not more than a week or two. The leading cause would be a viral infection and cold. In addition, acute sinus is also caused due to seasonal changes or allergies.

Chronic sinus- The nasal polyps grow, which causes sinus swelling. The chronic sinus has symptoms that last for 2 months and more. However, the leading cause would be a bacterial infection.

Sinus that has been infected– The main reason for such a type of sinus would be virus infections. This occurs when the treatment for sub-acute and chronic sinus is not completed. There are also non-infectious types of sinuses that will occur owing to allergens and related irritants.

Recurrence– The reoccurrence of the sinus would be several times at any time during the year. The reason for such a type of sinus is not known. Hence, it could be due to underlying issues of other varieties.

Diagnosis In Ayurveda For Sinus Treatment

Sinus treatment in Ayurveda starts from diagnosis. Generally, the experts will determine the symptoms and understand which sinus stage you might be facing. Although, advancements in technology have helped to ease treatments. X-Rays are used for para nasal sinus. X- rays will depict opacities in the region infected by sinus.

The experts will also diagnose the symptoms by testing the culture of mucus, doing a nasal endoscopy, testing allergies, taking blood samples, and conducting a sinus CT scan. If Ayurvedic experts detect fungal etiology, then samples from fungal discharge are also taken.

Sinus treatment in Ayurveda considers sinus condition as Dushta Pratishyaya, in which Kapha is impacted adversely. This condition will aggravate and vitiate Prana Vata, which is present within respiratory tracts.
