Technology Trends that Will Influence the Fashion Industry

Fashion remains to be one of the biggest industries throughout the entire world, and interestingly, even in the face of developing technology that a huge array of markets has needed to adapt to, the way that the fashion industry operates remain somewhat consistent with how it has done for the past few decades.

That being said, there is no getting around the fact that technology has and is going to continue to reshape the industry, even if it is doing so at less of a rate than other kinds of business. The question remains, what trends in technology are going to be the most prominent? This article is going to go into detail about the types of technology that are going to have a major influence on the fashion industry.

Artificial Intelligence

Yes, this type of technology is sending shockwaves throughout a number of different industries, and fashion is no different. Brands are likely going to start using AI as a means to improve the overall user experience, boosting sales and improving client care as a result.

Chatbots and touchscreens will be used within fashion stores so that people can search for specific products and get any questions they have about them answered in a second. The same applies to online shopping as there are going to be AI-developed means of communication that will allow customers to get their questions answered right away.

Customization

As technology improves, so too do the means by which we can use it to alter our clothes develop. There are more and more brands that are offering the ability to customize products thanks to the fact people are able to use their computers and simply add or take away from any customization that they would like.

This can apply to any type of clothing as a lot of people now use the likes of Anthem Branding as a means to create custom converse. These changes can be big and bold or small and subtle, but the fact remains, given so many people want their style to be theirs and theirs alone, increased customization across the industry is inevitable.

Novel Fabrics

This is arguably the future of fashion as the call for more sustainability seems to be getting louder and louder. People are taking to labs and creating lab-grown leather, which doesn’t involve the harming of any animals in its process. There are a lot of companies who like this approach to fashion and fabric and, as such, are getting involved, such as Modern Meadow, Bolt Threads, and Endogenetic.

This could even begin to apply to accessories as technology is making it so that now, materials can be printed by a 3D printer that changes color when exposed to different wavelengths of UV light. For instance, recently, a ring was produced by Colorable 3D that could be programmed to change into a number of different colors.

As such, it is clear that using technology as a means to develop material is certainly going to be a big part of the industry moving forward.
